Until yesterday (Mon 11th March) I was using the old one. Your comment alerted me to check my iPhone & the u-tec app had updated itself & I have the new U Home icon showing. Opened the app & yes it’s the new one as of today Tue 12th here in Melb Oz. Apart from the obvious look that’s changed & upfront options offered, all my settings show as I have set them. The only difference is that my event log has been wiped.
Hi Alan - my experience beta testing the new app has been it is (for me) less likely to communicate via the BT channel (needed for autounlock) than the old app. Of course, your experience going forward may be different. And of course, if it does establish the BT link “late” it could lead to autounlocking from inside.
I found two hacks that, for the beta, improved autounlock reliability to virtually 100%. Hack 1 is simply to unplug your bridge. Of course this means no remote access, but for me that’s okay. When I’m around town I don’t need remote access and when I’m out-of-town I can plug the bridge back in (and if AU doesn’t work then, well, I’m not home to be using AU)
Hack 2, actually preferred, is to put your bridge on a separate WiFi network - a guest or Internet-of-Things network. Both of those networks give your lock access to the internet (and you access to it exactly like your’re remote) without letting your phone access it directly. This hack keeps your phone from making a wifi connection as you get home, leaving an opportunity for it to communicate with your lock over z-wave.
Very belated reply to Bruce…apologies. Have been in & out of hospital. Thanks for all your comments & suggestions. Appreciated.
I finally managed to get a refund for the lock as the same problem eventually happened with the replacement. I replaced it with a Yale Assure SL with HomeKit module & works with my iPhone. Has all the same features as my U-Bolt Pro & App, minus the fingerprint reader, which I don’t miss as the Auto Unlock works every time. To be fair, I’ve only had it for 8 days but so far no phantom Auto Unlock issues. Time will tell I guess. It’s a keyless lock which I prefer (safer) & the keypad is actually smoother & easier to use with a quieter mechanism when it opens & shuts. And there were no issues replacing the old lock as the Yale went straight in, no extra drilling etc.
This’ll be my last post. Thanks to everyone who shared.
