I’d love to see this, and I’d be very happy to Beta test. Any updates?
This reply didn’t age well, Frank. It’s been just 2 months shy of 2 years now and still…no product. Not even an update on the status of an upcoming product. I really like your locks but at this point - 3 years total talking about HomeKit compatibility without delivering…anything…it seems like you’re not interested or technically capable.
U-Tec is at CES talking about whole-home automation, there are posts asking if we want an open API, but you can’t delivery on something 2+ years in (I was first told HomeKit was coming in 2021!), it offers no confidence that you can delivery on anything else either.
I know posting on a forum probably won’t get me good answers, but before I jump ship to one of the many other excellent smart locks, can we have an update?
There actually aren’t very many good options for locally-controlled fingerprint/code locks. That’s why companies like Utec have very little incentive to spend the mega loads of money on R&D to push new features out the door.
Do keep in mind, @Bradley1 that even when the new lock comes out that works with HomeKit, it probably will still require the proprietary app for fingerprint and code control.
I agree @Scott4 there are not lot of good options. But I only need 1 good option, and as it happens I have at least 4:
The Aquara U100, the Assure Lock 2 with or without fingerprint reader, and the Level lock. Fingerprint is nice, but it will easily replaced by the more convenient HomeKey for me. It’s not the must-have feature for me, that’s Homekit. What I like about the my Ultraloq is the look. The small footprint, physical buttons, hidden keyhole…I just like it and I’d like to stay with it.
I don’t think it would cost a mega amount of money to put out a Homekit compatible lock, and given that they’ve been promising one for years ,clearly U-Tec doesn’t think so either. They announced a beta program. They asked for volunteers. They showed images of the lock! All I’m asking for is some kind of update.
Doing so would also give them a product to sell to people like me. I’ve got 4 exterior doors to secure, and I won’t buy another non-Homekit lock.
Out of curiosity, what is so special about HomeKit for you? Anything that provides a LAN-based API is just as good, and devs/volunteers will jump on it.
At this point I’ve automated all the things. Alarm, outlets, ceiling fans, light switches, shades, security cameras, etc. It’s all Homekit. Because it’s all Homekit, I can see the status of every device and control them all from a single place. Automations, Scenes, etc.
I can set up a third-party solution like HomeBridge, but it’s extra work and extra cost…and, my guess is, less secure overall, just for the locks. Everything else is already working. If I was starting over, or if there were lots of smarthome devices that I couldn’t get Homekit versions for, it’d be worth it. It just isn’t at this point.
Even if they actually do open an API, there won’t be any of using it to integrate directly into my existing setup. It’ll be mash of API calls via shortcuts, or require HomeBridge, HOOBS, etc. Pass.
I’m still waiting for Bolt NFC with Apple HomeKey support.
Any chance that it will be availble in early 2025?
