Door Sensor doesn’t work on metal doors

Hello,

I just learned that the door sensor won’t work on my lock, since the door is metal and apparently magnetized (NYC apartment). This is too bad as it’s a good feature. Why not make a simple device that just uses a physical contact to close a circuit to accomplish the same thing as the magnetic door sensor, to be used as an alternative? Seems like a pretty simple thing to engineer.
