Wifi Bridge used on a wifi enabled lock

I have a ultraloq pro with built in wifi. I have other issues, but it’s using batteries way too fast. I know that wifi uses a lot of power. I’m wondering if I can disable the wifi on the unit, purchase a wifi bridge, and then pair it to my unit. I’d get the wifi access without the power consumption. Anybody know if this would work?
