ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro WiFi fingerprint

A word of caution if you’re considering the ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro for its fingerprint feature — it’s probably not going to last very long.

The fingerprint reader does not work if your finger has even a small amount of moisture or sweat, which makes it frustrating in daily use, especially in warmer climates. You’re out on a run or a brisk walk? Nope. The worse problem is that after a year or two, the fingerprint reader will fail completely, even when the lock is protected from the elements. I have one inside a garage and it failed the same way.

I’ve owned three of these locks, and all have eventually developed the same issue: they’ll let you register new fingerprints, but when you try to unlock the door, the reader no longer activates. You’re left relying on the keypad to unlock the door instead.

While the keypad still works, these locks aren’t cheap (around $200 each) — and they’ve required additional costs, such as replacing the Wi-Fi bridge after a couple of years.

The concept is great, but the long-term performance just doesn’t hold up.

@Heirtzler Thank you for your message. We have submitted a ticket #520786 for you. Our dedicated support team will reach out to you soon to help you resolve the issue.

I echo your experience and have a similar story. I took down a fully functional lock due to a house move. When I put it back up, the fingerprint sensor had failed in exactly the way described here. It was out of the electronic warranty period and replacement requests were denied.

There are many similar reports out there re: this fingerprint sensor defect. This was on one of their earlier versions, and I would hope this issue has been fixed in later ones, but I have some doubts. Do you know what production version your 3 locks were?

Thanks for the info the only reason I purchased this lock over others is Consumer Reports rated it for actually someone breaking the lock. Many of these smart locks had a pretty poor rating and were easy to break with crowbar or sledge hammer. In that aspect this lock did very well.

Now if they only would give a method to backup the data from the lock so when it needs firmware update or fails you can have your user data backed up and can restore it. The latest firmware update after I reported problem with only being able to do save 4 fingerprints and this has been fixed and the away unlocking when returning seems to be working now also.
