Can't lock using fingerprints or code

I’m able to unlock using my fingerprint and/or code but unable to lock by either. Is that normal and expected?

We are changing batteries monthly now. The originals lasted a while, but what were they? Regular batteries are useless or the UTec is useless. Please advise!
