This afternoon, I got a notification on my phone promoting a U-Tec sale.
Apple’s App Store guidelines stipulate that:
Push Notifications should not be used for promotions or direct marketing purposes unless customers have explicitly opted in to receive them via consent language displayed in your app’s UI, and you provide a method in your app for a user to opt out from receiving such messages. Abuse of these services may result in revocation of your privileges.
Not only did I not sign up for any notifications unrelated to the operation of my device, there doesn’t seem to be a way to disable this notification short of cutting off the app entirely. This sort of marketing is pretty inappropriate.
